Seven Wonders of the Ancient World
The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World is a list of seven notable structures present during classical antiquity. While the entries have varied over the centuries, the seven traditional wonders are the Great Pyramid of Giza, the Colossus of Rhodes, the Lighthouse of Alexandria, the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, the Temple of Artemis, the Statue of Zeus at Olympia, and the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. Using modern-day countries, two of the wonders were located in Greece, two in Turkey, two in Egypt, and one in Iraq. Of the seven wonders, only the Pyramid of Giza, which is also by far the oldest of the wonders, still remains standing, with the others being destroyed over the centuries.

A monumental tomb in Halicarnassus, Asia Minor (modern-day Bodrum, Turkey). It was built for Mausolus, a Persian satrap, and his wife Artemisia. The word 'mausoleum' is derived from its name.
Colossus of Rhodes
A giant bronze statue of the Greek god Helios, erected in the city of Rhodes, Greece. It stood at the entrance of the harbor and was toppled by an earthquake after standing for only 54 years.
Hanging Gardens of Babylon
An elaborate terraced garden in the city of Babylon, Mesopotamia (modern-day Iraq). Its existence is disputed, but it was described as a magnificent feat of engineering and aesthetics.
Lighthouse of Alexandria
A towering lighthouse on the island of Pharos in Alexandria, Egypt. It was one of the tallest man-made structures of the time and served as a navigational beacon for ships in the harbor.
Great Pyramid of Giza
The largest and oldest of the three pyramids in Giza, Egypt. It was built as a tomb for the Pharaoh Khufu and is the only remaining wonder of the ancient world.
